We can assist you with any of the following procedures
but here is some information that may be helpful.
Getting Started
First secure your domain name.
Check online with
www.verio.com or
www.web.com
to see if your name is available. Try to
choose a name that makes sense and is easily understood over the phone. That
way you are not spelling it out every time causing confusion. Check other
names out there that may be similar to yours. You don't want your clients to
go to another site by mistake, especially if it is the site of a competitor.
If people often misspell your business name try to secure that misspelled name
as well. You can always set additional names up as
domain pointers. We recommend securing your
name(s) for as long as you can afford at the time. If you can only afford a
year make sure you keep a note of when it is renewable in case your contact
details change. Once you have that name you don't want to lose it!
Think about your target market.
Why do you want a web site? Who will be visiting your site? Having an
understanding of this will help when it comes to designing your site.
You know that '30 second commercial' that is so
important when someone asks about your business? That will be a good concise
description for your home page. Visitors to your site want to find out quickly
what you do and assess whether they are interested in finding out more. The first impression of your
site is very important.
Domain Pointers. These are just domain names or
URL's that redirect to a web site. This can be an economical way to secure
names that are similar to yours and help you keep customers. You can host
your web site under your main domain name and, often for very little cost, you
can direct those other domain names to your site.
